Check out the new book - Changemaker: An Insider's Guide to Getting Sh*t Done at the California Capitol

Here in #Sacramento, we're getting down to the wire.

There are less than four weeks left to #California's legislative session. As bills reach their final committee and floor votes, hundreds of organizations are mobilizing their membership to contact their lawmakers to urge them to vote the right way.

Want to make sure your community is heard? Do these three things:

- Focus on phone calls. Yes, social media is important and emails serve a purpose too. But when it comes down to it, old fashioned phone calls still have the greatest impact when it comes to contacting elected officials.

- Make sure your members are calling the right lawmakers. Don't have your constituents call lawmakers from across the state. Focus on who represents them. And make sure they identify as a constituent when they call.

- Your callers should be registered to vote. They should mention that when they call as well.

Your script should go something like this: My name is xxx. I live in xxx. I am a registered voter and a constituent and this is what I want you to do..."

These three things will go a long way to cut through the noise.
